Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil is a leave-in styling oil for the hair lengths. Start with a few drops, spread them between your hands and apply where you need a smoother, softer-looking finish. It can be used on damp or dry hair, and it is not a scalp oil or a rinse-out mask.
How much Olaplex Bonding Oil should you use?
The manufacturer suggests starting with two to three drops. The bottle dispenses a small amount when inverted and tapped, so take your time rather than pouring out a large quantity.
Hair length, density and the result you want all affect how much feels comfortable. Begin with less, especially on fine hair. You can add a little more to the ends; removing an overly oily finish is less convenient.
Using No.7 on damp hair
- Wash and condition as usual, then towel-dry gently.
- Dispense a few drops of Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil into your hands.
- Spread through the mid-lengths and ends, distributing evenly.
- Style as desired, following the product’s instructions.
This is a leave-in step. Do not rinse it out immediately as though it were conditioner. If you already use several styling products, consider which role each one serves before adding another layer.
Using No.7 on dry hair
On dry hair, use a very small amount for finishing or touch-ups. Concentrate on the areas that need it rather than automatically reapplying from roots to ends. Check the result before adding more.
If your roots become flat easily, keep the application focused on the lengths. A styling oil is not a replacement for washing away product build-up when your hair needs cleansing.
What about heat protection?
Olaplex states that No.7 provides heat protection up to 232°C. That is a product claim, not a recommended setting for your tools. Use the lowest effective heat for your hair and follow both the product and appliance instructions.
Heat protection does not make repeated excessive heat harmless. Gentle drying, sensible tool settings and avoiding unnecessary repeated passes remain part of caring for the hair.
No.7 versus No.6 and No.3
No.6 Bond Smoother is a styling cream, while No.7 is an oil. No.3 Hair Perfector is a separate wash-out treatment with a different place in the routine. The numbers identify products; they are not instructions to apply every bottle in numerical order.
Our Olaplex number guide helps you choose only the steps relevant to you.
Can it make hair grow?
No.7 is a cosmetic hair oil for styling and conditioning the lengths. It should not be presented as a treatment for hair loss or applied to the scalp with an expectation of regrowth.
Do I need to apply it every day?
Use it when it serves your styling needs and follow the label. If your hair already feels coated, adding more is unlikely to be the most useful next step.
